Once students are accepted into the BCom program, they must complete one year of core courses (e.g., accounting, financial management, international management, marketing management, organizational behavior and human resources management, management of information systems, operations management, etc.). When they begin their foundation or core courses varies depending on whether the program is Direct Entry, requires one Pre-Professional year or is a "2 + 2" Entry Program.
In the senior years--typically year three, although year four for 2 + 2 Entry Programs--students may choose a specialization from over 40 areas of concentration. Some of the possible areas of concentration (or majors) are accounting, entrepreneurship and venture development, financial management, health care administration, international management, leadership, marketing management, strategic management and policy, real estate management, and taxation, etc.
BCom students also have the opportunity to take electives classes, which can either be further business classes designed to strengthen their knowledge of issues within their chosen area of specialization, or in other business areas in which they have an interest. Students may also take a limited number of non-business classes in complementary areas such as languages, science, social sciences, humanities, etc.
A required business capstone course, offered in the final year of a student's BCom studies, is a cross-disciplinary course that integrates material from previous classes.
