Business school guest speakers are an important part of exposing students to people, organizations and ideas in the business world. Guest speakers are generally drawn from a wide spectrum of business interests, from the local independent start-up to the multinational corporation.
Many schools have associate organizations, such as the Associates of the Asper School of Business at the University of Manitoba. Members of the associate organizations will often be invited to speak.
Speakers may also be sought from a variety of different cultures, particularly in programs with an international focus. Some schools host a speaker series, with guest speakers coming in on a regularly scheduled basis. Guest speakers are also invited to speak for individual events, such as at special occasions (banquets, convocations), or as part of an individual instructor's class. Students gain the opportunity to learn from guest speakers' real-world expertise in the field, and to ask questions and receive answers based on concrete experience.
