Pre-professional year (1+3) BCom programs require that students have a year of pre-professional studies before admission to the School or Faculty of Business. Generally, students may take that year of study in Arts or Science at the same university as they wish to pursue their Business studies, or they may pursue that first year at another post-secondary institution. Admission to the Business program is usually based on coursework and grades from the pre-professional year, although secondary school records may also be consulted.
Some schools or programs may specify that students take certain requirements during the pre-professional year, such as language courses, math courses or economics courses. Other electives may be up to the student.
At the end of the 4 years, students graduate with a BCom (Bachelor of Commerce) degree.
