What is Business
Business Programs
"What is Business?" might seem like an obvious question, since business is all around us in our daily lives. But when it comes to education and the various types of business degrees available, it needs some explanation.

In education, Business includes the study of management and commerce. Programs in Business cover both practical business training and academic/ theoretical study of the business world.

Since the first institution to specialize in business and commerce was founded in 1759, business Schools and Faculties world-wide have worked to teach students the best techniques for business management and strategy, commerce and commercial enterprise, finance (both domestic and international), marketing, human resource management, business information systems and business law and ethics (among other topics). Business students are trained in the necessary skills to better themselves and the larger business world.

In addition, business schools also study the business world on an academic level, conducting scholarly research and quantitative investigations into how the various aspects of the field work and change.

Business schools can be found as Faculties in universities, or as independent schools. Different business schools may have a different focus, with some having greater emphasis on international or transnational commerce, or on a particular business sector such as technology or finance. The study of Business can be carried out at the undergraduate, Masters and Doctoral levels, with undergraduate credentials ranging from 12-week certificates, 2-year diplomas and 2-year associate's degrees to 4-year bachelor's degrees.
